Iowa City artist Laura Young will show “The Devil’s Cloth,” paintings and works on paper, at the University of Iowa Museum of Art’s First Friday reception to be held from 5 to 7 p.m on Dec. 6 at hotelVetro, 201 S. Linn St. in downtown Iowa City. For $5, art enthusiasts can enjoy refreshments and toe-tapping tunes provided by DJ Max Johnson.
As a painter, Young is particularly interested in the metaphorical aspects of light and how the amount of light in a picture affects our mood and reaction. Originally from the East Coast, she has been teaching since 1997 at the University of Iowa.
She has also taught at Montclair State University, Upper Montclair, N.J.; Long Island University, Brooklyn, N.Y.; Keane College, Union, N.J.; the Lincoln Center Institute, New York City, The Museum of Modern Art, and at Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, N.M.
Young has shown her work in museums, in commercial galleries, in juried and group shows, and internationally in Denmark and Nigeria. Her work is also represented in private and corporate collections across the country.
