The University of Iowa School of Music will present a free performance by the Bad Boyz of Double Bass, featuring Volkan Orhon, UI associate professor of double bass, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, in Riverside Recital Hall on the UI campus.
Orhon is joined in the Bad Boyz of Double Bass by David Murray of Butler University, Paul Sharpe of the North Carolina School of the Arts, and Anthony Stoops of the University of Oklahoma. Each has won awards in solo competitions and have presented performances throughout the United States and abroad.
As a quartet, the Bad Boyz have appeared at International Bass Society conventions in Kalamazoo, Oklahoma City, San Francisco, State College (Pa.), and at the Eastman School, as well as Wroclaw, Poland, and Paris, France. They have been featured presenters at the American String Teachers Conventions in Atlanta in 2010 and 2012. They were the ensemble in residence at Butler University’s Bass Camp in June 2013.

- String Quartet No. 12 (Lento), Antonin Dvorak (arr. Orhon)
- Bohemian Rhapsody, Freddie Mercury (arr. Murray)
- Angry Birds, Ari Pulkkinen (arr. Simons)
- Party Rock Anthem (arr. Stoops)
