The University of Iowa Department of Theatre Arts will present a Gallery Production, thisisnotaWarPlay | thisisaWarPlay, written by Micah Ariel James and directed by Joshua Raheim, at 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 24-26, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, in Theatre B of the UI Theatre Building.
Tickets for Gallery Productions are available in the Theatre Building lobby one hour before showtime. Tickets are $5 for nonstudents and free for University of Iowa students with a valid ID.
Set against the backdrop of a long-raging war, thisisnotaWarPlay | thisisaWarPlay tells the story of three sisters—a photographer who likes to stop time, a soldier who wants her life to mean something, and a student who might be a monster—coping with their mother's death and their father's impending execution. On their journey we meet a museum owner who has a lot of ideas, a prisoner who thinks about loving that much, a builder who's just making conversation, and a soldier who's just passing through.
“This play is about the way people communicate or choose not to communicate with each other,” says Raheim. “It’s also a call to action, but that call will be heard differently by each person who chooses to acknowledge it.”
The Department of Theatre Arts is part of the Division of Performing Arts in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all UI-sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to attend the production, contact the Department of Theatre Arts in advance at 319-335-2700.
