A student in a University of Iowa camp reported an assault that occurred in downtown Iowa City in the early afternoon of Monday, July 15.
UI officials reported the alleged incident to the Iowa City Police Department, and Johnson County Ambulance transported the student to UI Hospitals and Clinics for medical attention.
UI officials also immediately contacted the student’s parents. The student decided to return home and has left Iowa City.
On, Tuesday, July 16, UI officials alerted the other students in the program and their parents about the incident, and reminded them about the program’s safety protocols.
UI leaders assured camp participants and their families that their safety is the university’s top priority.
