The University of Iowa Museum of Art (UIMA) has received a special $40,000 grant from the American art program of the Henry Luce Foundation, an organization committed to American art history and scholarship.
The one-time grant will support the UIMA in digitizing a portion of its American art collection. Digitization will allow the public greater access to images of artwork in the collection as well as background information on individual pieces, including research done on the work as well as loan and exhibition history.
The UIMA's American art collection includes celebrated paintings such as Plaid Sweater by Iowa native Grant Wood and Mural by Jackson Pollock, in addition to the extensive collection of prints, drawings, and photographs. While selections from the collection are currently viewable on the museum website, the UIMA will continue its dedication to art scholarship and education by expanding online options for museum-goers.
