The University of Iowa Mock Trial Program (UIMT) sent two teams to the Cedar Rapids Regional Tournament in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Feb. 16 and 17. Teams 1481 and 1482 both competed and earned bids to the Opening Round Championship Series (ORCS) to be held in Saint Louis, Mo. March 15-17.

Team 1481, captained by junior Kate Moore and sophomore Amber Mahoney, picked up wins over Grinnell College, St. Ambrose University, and Cornell College and placed seventh overall. Team 1482, captained by junior Hannah Graber and sophomore Kelly Daniels, recorded victories over Luther College, DePaul University, and Bradley University and finished sixth overall. Junior Hyder Chowdry of team 1482 received a perfect 20 ranks as an attorney and was awarded an outstanding attorney award for his performance. Team 1481 also received the Spirit of AMTA (American Mock Trial Association) award. Spirit of AMTA is awarded to the team which best exemplifies the ideals of sportsmanship, integrity, and kindness throughout the tournament.

These two bids bring UIMT’s total to three bids to the St. Louis ORCS tournament. Though a mock trial program is only allowed to fill two bids by AMTA, this additional bid shows the overall health and competitiveness of UIMT.
