Here’s some good news: The Bad Plus is next up for Club Hancher. The University of Iowa’s performing arts presenter will present the jazz trio at The Mill on Saturday, March 2, at 7:30 and 9:30 p.m.

The Bad Plus—pianist Ethan Iverson, bassist Reid Anderson, and drummer David King—has recently released Made Possible, the band’s eighth recording. The album adds to the band’s strong body of convention-busting original music, which is spiced with innovative covers of popular music. The band has played Iowa City before, performing during the 2006 edition of the Iowa City Jazz Festival, but the performances at The Mill will offer audiences a more intimate experience with the groundbreaking musicians.

The group has been together for 12 years, and its members have been committed to a band ethos, which has earned them fans of all stripes—from traditional jazz aficionados to more mainstream listeners—and put them at the forefront of a new instrumental music movement. The music they have created together expands the idea of what a piano-bass-drums trio can accomplish.

The Club Hancher performances by The Bad Plus are supported, in part, by a partnership with the Jazz Arts Group’s Jazz Audiences Initiative, with support from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. They are also supported by the Hancher Partners and gifts to Hancher Circle through the UI Foundation.
