The University of Iowa Museum of Natural History continues its fall Movies@MNH series Sunday, Dec. 2, at 2 p.m. in Macbride Auditorium. This month’s movie is “The Worm Hunters,” with a run time of 52 minutes. The movie series is a free family event open to the public.

In a dark underworld of dirty deeds, vile slime and deadly pollution, scientists are exposing an animal that could help save our challenged planet — the humble earthworm. Can it reverse the earth’s infertile hot spots? Can it cure cancer? Is it the answer to toxic waste? "The Worm Hunters" go underground to find answers. Armed with spades, GPS worm locators, secret "worm ousting" fluids, backhoes and worm evacuators, these somewhat oddball but dedicated scientists literally search high and low for the world’s first Super Worm.

Earthworm expert Samuel James, adjunct associated professor with the UI Department of Biology, will lead a discussion following the film.
