Tryouts in Hubbard Park Tuesday
Sunday, August 12, 2012

Think you can sing like an angel and move like Jagger? Then stop by Hubbard Park on the University of Iowa campus Tuesdayone of 10 stops along the American Idol Small Town Audition Bus Tour.

Gearing up for its 12th season, the popular Fox television talent competition is holding open auditions starting around 8 a.m. While celebrity judges like Randy Jackson won’t be on hand, aspiring performers will have a chance to grab 15 minutes of fame, or infamy (“Pants on the Ground,” anyone? How about William "She Bangs!" Hung?).

There are a few rules for people who want to audition. No instruments, no clothing or tattoos with logos or celebrity images, and no camping the night before to get a good place in line. And contestants must be 18 years old (with two forms of ID, including one with a photograph) or bring a parent or legal guardian.

For the audition, singers should come prepared to perform two to three songs a cappella. Contestants who make it through to the next round (location and date to be determined) will get a golden ticket (yes, just like on TV).
