App lets users search names, comment
Monday, July 2, 2012

The University of Iowa Digital Studio for Public Humanities (DSPH), in collaboration with the University of Southern California, and the NAMES Project, has launched AIDS Quilt Touch, a mobile web application. AIDS Quilt Touch enables users to search for a specific name, contribute comments, and locate a panel of the AIDS Memorial Quilt.

AIDS Quilt Touch was developed for QUILT 2012 events from June to July 2012 in Washington, D.C. Eight thousand quilt panels — 800 different panels each day — will be displayed over the 10 days of the Smithsonian Folklife Festival from June 27 to July 8. Forty-eight thousand panels —12,000 different panels per day—celebrating the lives of more than 90,000 people will be on display July 21-25 on the National Mall as part of the XIX International AIDS Conference.

DSPH encourages and supports public digital humanities research, scholarship and learning.
