The University of Iowa’s Hancher will present comedic jugglers the Gizmo Guys on Sunday, May 20, at 2 p.m. in Opstad Auditorium at City High School. The performance is part of Spot—The Hancher Family Arts Adventure, a program that brings artists to the Iowa City area and another Iowa community each year to connect with young families. This year’s Spot community is Red Oak.
The Gizmo Guys—Allan Jacobs and Barrett Felker—have won international juggling competitions, taught at top circus schools, and appeared on television and in venues around the country. The New York Times describes their performances as “human virtuosity with a touch of lunacy.”
In addition to the May 20 performance, the Gizmo Guys’ local residency will include the following events:
Friday, May 18, 6:30 p.m.—Objects in Motion juggling workshop at the Iowa Children's Museum, 1451 Coral Ridge Ave, Coralville.
Saturday, May 19, 10 a.m.—Mini-performance at the Iowa City Farmers Market, 410 E. Washington St., Iowa City.
Saturday, May 19, 2 p.m.—Objects in Motion performance at the Iowa Children's Museum, 1451 Coral Ridge Ave, Coralville.
Spot—The Hancher Family Arts Adventure was originally funded by a grant from the Wallace Foundation. The program, which is in eighth year, is now supported by an endowment and by the Hancher Partners.
