The Latin Jazz Ensemble of the University of Iowa School of Music will be joined by guest artists Rich Medd, trombone, and John Lorenz, bata, in a free concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 15, in the Riverside Recital Hall. The ensemble is directed by faculty member James Dreier.
The concert will feature musical genres including rumba, samba, choro, cha-cha, and bolero that reflect Cuban, Afro-Cuban, and Brazilian traditions, both in those countries and transplanted to the United States.
Medd, a UI alumnus, has taught instrumental music at Iowa City West High School since 1995 and is a 21-year veteran of Orquesta de Jazz y Salsa Alto Maiz. For a bio of Dreier, click here.
The School of Music is in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
