Lacan and the Science of Rhetoric is the subject of the University of Iowa Department of Communication Studies 2012 Hitchcock Lecture, which will be presented by Christian Lundberg at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, in room 101 of the Becker Communication Studies Building.

Lundberg is an assistant professor in the Department of Communication Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received his doctorate in Communication Studies from Northwestern University with emphases on rhetoric and cultural studies. His current research focuses on theories of the public as a social and discursive form, and on the animating principles for public discourses and identities. At the level of theories of the public, his current project, Lacan in Public works through the implications of Jacques Lacan’s psychoanalysis for thinking the rhetorical character of publics as social formations and of the public discourses that circulate within them.

The lecture is part of the Department of Communication Studies Seminar Lecture Series and is free and open to the public. A reception will immediately follow the lecture.
