The University of Iowa Jazz Repertory Ensemble (JRE) will perform classic big-band scores by the "late greats" of jazz at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 5, in the Mill restaurant in downtown Iowa City.

Director Brent Sandy, a UI School of Music faculty member, says the performance will feature music by composers including Thad Jones, Bob Brookmeyer, and Gil Evans, but the exact program will not be determined until the last minute.

"I like to make these club hits as much a 'true to life' professional experience as possible for my students," Sandy says, "so I generally make the calls as far as programming is concerned the day of the concert."

Admission will be a $5 cover charge.
