UI award reception honors students, faculty, staff April 12

The University of Iowa Chief Diversity Office invites members of the UI campus and local community to celebrate distinctive and innovative diversity contributions at the 13th Annual Diversity Catalyst Award Reception Thursday, April 12.

The reception begins at 3 p.m., followed by the awards program from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the Sheraton Hotel in Iowa City. The event is free and open to the public.

This year's Diversity Catalyst Award recipients are the following:

Faculty/Staff Award co-recipients: Michael Anderson, Ph.D., associate professor, Department of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics, UI Carver College of Medicine; and Daniel F. Eberl, Ph.D., professor, Department of Biology, UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS);

Student Award co-recipients: Kyla R. Djannie and Darcelle A. Skeete, co-presidents, Black Law Student Association;

Student Award recipient: stef shuster, M.A., graduate student instructor, UI Department of Sociology;

Faculty/Staff Award recipient: Patrick A. Dolan Jr., Ph.D.,lecturer, department of rhetoric, CLAS, and Leonard Sandler, J.D.,clinical professor and diversity officer, College of Law;

Distinguished Achievement Award Recipient: Leonard Sandler, J.D., clinical professor and diversity officer, UI College of Law.

Margaret S. Crocco, professor and dean of the UI College of Education, will deliver the keynote address.

The Diversity Catalyst Award Reception will be held in conjunction with the Erroll B. Davis Jr./ Alliant Energy Awards, which are given to selected seniors from Iowa’s three public universities. The Erroll B. Davis Jr. Alliant Energy Award recognizes academic achievement, leadership in campus and community organizations, and potential for future career success. The Erroll B. Davis Jr./ Alliant Energy Award recipients for FY 2012 will be announced at the reception.
