"The best way to manage our waste is not to make it in the first place," says Liz Christiansen, director of the University of Iowa's Office of Sustainability. "When you look at how we use resources on this planet: take, make, waste—it relies on a never-ending source of natural resources. That is unsustainable." She was responding to the new book, The Conundrum: How Scientific Innovation, Increased Efficiency and Good Intentions Can Make Our Energy and Climate Problems Worse by David Owen.
