UI Jazz Combos Featuring Marion Hayden

UI Jazz Combos Featuring Marion Hayden

Join us for an exciting evening of music featuring the University of Iowa’s Black & Gold Combos, and the UI Jazz Professors featuring special guest Marion Hayden—one of the nation’s premier jazz bassists.

A Detroit native, Hayden was mentored by the legendary Marcus Belgrave and has performed with icons like Bobby McFerrin, Nancy Wilson, Geri Allen, and Regina Carter. A co-founder of Straight Ahead, the first all-woman jazz ensemble signed to Atlantic Records, she is also an acclaimed educator and advocate for jazz. Her contributions have earned her the Kresge Artist Fellowship, Jazz Hero Award, and Art X Grant.
