University Human Resources and the Office of the President have launched a new pilot program for faculty and staff that offers employees unique opportunities to engage with the campus during normal working hours and to explore places that make the University of Iowa great.

Discover Your University will offer employees two visit days this fall—Oct. 11 and Nov. 2— when they can register to connect with the campus and their colleagues. The National Advanced Driving Simulator, the Iowa Technology Institute, Hancher Auditorium, UI Health Care, and the Pentacrest Museums are just some of the visit opportunities that will be available. Most sessions will last one to two hours during the workday.

Offering employees a chance to connect with the campus is an important part of the university’s efforts to prioritize holistic well-being and success, as outlined in the Strategic Plan 2022—2027, says UI President Barbara Wilson.

“Every day, I look forward to exploring different parts of our campus to learn more about the work of our amazing colleagues,” says Wilson. “This program will help our faculty and staff experience those same moments of amazement, discovering more about the incredible institution they work at and represent.”

Teams from across campus are encouraged to participate to not only get to know each other better, but to learn what other units on campus are accomplishing.

“This is an exciting time at the university as we begin to fulfill the new strategic plan and its mission,” says Cheryl Reardon, chief human resources officer and associate vice president. “The Discover Your University initiative is one way to provide employees the opportunity to feel engaged in their community and learn more about some of the fantastic things going on around campus they may not have known about.”

Employees can sign up for a visit day and program here, which will provide a registration link to MyTraining in Employee Self-Service.
