Good afternoon,

The University of Iowa is closely monitoring the severe weather expected to impact our area this afternoon and overnight into Thursday morning.

At this time, the forecasted risk for extreme conditions varies across the state.

The possibility for power outages and high winds in our area this evening could impact students who are working on final exams and papers remotely or who may need to travel to campus for an exam. If a power outage, hazardous conditions, or other extraordinary circumstances prevent your students from completing an exam or assignment, we encourage you to be flexible.

At this time, final exams scheduled for today will not be canceled or rescheduled. Please evaluate your individual circumstances and make reasonable judgments to avoid serious risks when traveling to and from campus. If there is a significant change to university operations due to weather, the university will issue a Hawk Alert and post an update to the UI Homepage, the UI Emergency Information website, and its Twitter account.  Those on campus should use this reminder as an opportunity to update their Hawk Alert preferences. Text messaging is the fastest way to receive a Hawk Alert.

For additional information, see the university’s Extreme Weather Protocol. You can also view the most current information on the forecast via the National Weather Service.
