Marcussen named UI’s new campus health officer

The University of Iowa has named Britt Marcussen its new campus health officer. Marcussen, a physician and clinical associate professor in family medicine and orthopedics and rehabilitation, began serving in the role on July 1, 2021.

The campus health officer provides medical supervision for Student Health and serves as the medical director for the UI health insurance plans. The health officer also serves as an additional medical advisor to campus leadership on critical public health issues and pandemic preparedness and response. 

“I’m excited to continue to serve the university in this new role as we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic,” says Marcussen.

Marcussen completed his undergraduate, and masters, and medical degrees at the University of Iowa.

The 15% appointment is a one-year term and is contingent on holding a faculty position within the Carver College of Medicine. The percentage of effort and compensation can be renegotiated in the event of a critical public health emergency.

“Our campus and our students will benefit from Dr. Marcussen’s expertise,” says Sarah Hansen, vice president for student life. “It is essential, especially during the pandemic, that our Student Health office has the input and experience of a campus health officer.”

Marcussen succeeds Daniel Fick, who was named chief medical officer for Hy-Vee.
