On Dec. 17–20, almost 1,900 University of Iowa students will receive their degrees in livestreamed, virtual commencement ceremonies, beginning with the College of Education’s undergraduate and Teacher Education Program recognition on Dec. 17 and concluding with the College of Engineering undergraduate ceremony on Dec. 20.

Thursday, Dec. 17

College of Education
Undergraduate Commencement and Teacher Education Program Recognition
4 p.m. CST

Ceremony for graduates majoring in elementary, art, English, foreign language, mathematics, music, science, and social studies education. Graduates also will be recognized for Teacher Education Program completion and recommendation for state licensure.

Megan Meyer, who is graduating with a major in elementary education, will be the student speaker. Mark McDermott, clinical professor of science education, will be the faculty speaker.

Friday, Dec. 18

Graduate College
Doctoral Degree Candidates
9 a.m. CST

President Bruce Harreld, Interim Executive Vice President and Provost Kevin Kregel, Associate Provost for Graduate Education and Dean John Keller, Board of Regents President Michael Richards, and Honorary Degree Recipient Ellen Stofan will deliver messages to students. The alumna speaker will be Alaine Reschke-Hernandez. Graduate Kelsey Klein will be the student speaker.

Master’s Degree Candidates
7 p.m. CST

President Bruce Harreld, Interim Executive Vice President and Provost Kevin Kregel, Associate Provost for Graduate Education and Dean John Keller, and Board of Regents President Michael Richards will deliver messages to students. The alumnus speaker will be Matthew Stancel. Hannah Hodges will be the student speaker. Collegiate deans also will provide a congratulatory message.

Saturday, Dec. 19

University College
Undergraduate

Tanya Uden-Holman, associate provost for undergraduate education and dean of University College, will deliver a message to students. The faculty speaker will be Cinda Coggins-Mosher, associate professor in the Department of Rhetoric. Graduates Dawn Hays and Sidnee Phillips will be the student speakers.

College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
Undergraduate
9 a.m. CST

Interim Dean Sara Sanders and UI President Bruce Harreld will confer degrees. Graduate College Dean John Keller and President Harreld will confer an Honorary Doctorate of Science upon Ellen Stofan, who is the John and Adrienne Mars Director of the National Air and Space Museum.

Cornelia Lang, associate dean for undergraduate education and professor of physics and astronomy will introduce Stofan. Student speaker will be Cassandra Chia, of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, who will receive a degree in English and Creative Writing and a minor in Theatre Arts.
