An engineering professor at the University of Iowa is the top editor for the scientific journal Advances in Water Resources.

Gabriele Villarini, professor of civil and environmental engineering in the College of Engineering and director of IIHR-Hydroscience & Engineering, was named editor-in-chief on Oct. 1 at the journal, which publishes peer-reviewed studies addressing fundamental scientific advances in the understanding of water resources systems. 

Villarini's research interests focus on flood hydrology, extreme events, hydroclimatology, and climate predictions and projections. He earned his doctorate civil and environmental engineering from Iowa in 2008 and joined the engineering faculty at Iowa in 2012.
