College of Engineering dean search finalists to visit campus for open forums

The University of Iowa search committee for the new dean of the College of Engineering has selected four final candidates. The candidates will visit campus from Oct. 29 to Nov. 12 to participate in public forums and meet with faculty, staff, and college leadership.

UI faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend the forums and provide their feedback.

The time, dates, and locations of the open forums are as follows:

• 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 29, in Shambaugh Auditorium, Main Library
• 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 31, in Shambaugh Auditorium, Main Library
• 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 5, in Shambaugh Auditorium, Main Library
• 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 11, in Lecture Room 1, Van Allen Hall

The name of each candidate will be announced 24 hours before they are scheduled for an open forum. At that time, the candidate’s curriculum vitae will be made available on the College of Engineering dean search website.

Alec Scranton, dean of the College of Engineering and UI Foundation Distinguished Professor of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, announced in January that he will step down on June 30, 2020.

In May, Daniel Clay, dean of the College of Education, and Keri Hornbuckle, Donald E. Bentley Professor of Engineering and professor of occupational and environmental health, were named as co-chairs of the search committee.

The search firm Witt/Kieffer Inc. is assisting with the search. Executive Vice President and Provost Montserrat Fuentes will make the final selection this fall.
