A University of Iowa physicist has been appointed to a science advisory panel for the U.S. Department of Energy.

Fred Skiff, professor and chair in Department of Physics and Astronomy, will serve as a member of the Fusion Energy Sciences Advisory Committee in the DOE's Office of Science. The panel provides advice and recommendations on scientific, technical, and programmatic issues relating to the U.S.'s fusion energy sciences program. Skiff will provide advice and counsel in laser and optical plasma diagnostics, and nonlinear dynamics of plasmas.

Skiff's voluntary appointment lasts until June 2022.
