The University of Iowa search committee for the vice president for research has selected two finalists. The candidates will visit campus over the next two weeks to participate in public forums and meet with faculty, staff, and campus leadership.

Both of the open forums will take place in the Iowa Memorial Union's Iowa Theater (room 166). The dates and times of the forums are:

  • Thursday, Feb. 14, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, Feb. 21, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

The names of each candidate will be announced in Iowa Now the day before they are scheduled for an open forum. At that time, the candidate’s curriculum vitae will be made available on the vice president for research search website.

The vice president for research search committee, made up of University of Iowa faculty, staff, and students, was formed in May 2018. The committee is chaired by Aliasger Salem, the Bighley Chair and professor of pharmaceutical sciences and head of the Division of Pharmaceutics and Translational Therapeutics at the UI College of Pharmacy, and Dorothy Johnson, professor of art and area head of the Art History Division.

The committee was formed to find a replacement for Daniel Reed, who stepped down in fall 2017 and later was named the senior vice president for academic affairs at the University of Utah. John Keller, dean of the Graduate College and associate provost for graduate and professional education, has been serving as interim vice president for research.

UI President J. Bruce Harreld will make the final selection after the campus visits.
