Kelly Carrell, assistant director of Student Financial Aid, was selected in December to participate in National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators' (NASFAA) inaugural 2018-19 Diversity Leadership Program Class, which provides mentorship and guidance on how to develop as a financial aid association leader at the state, regional, and national level.

“Kelly uses her passion for helping others, particularly those from low income, disenfranchised, and underrepresented groups, along with the skill set developed through her educational background and experience in social work settings to truly make a difference in students’ lives," says Cindy Seyfer, senior associate director of Student Financial Aid at the University of Iowa.

Carrell joined the Office of Student Financial Aid in 2000 as a financial aid counselor and previously worked in various social work settings including work with HIV/AIDS education and prevention, individuals affected by domestic violence, and LGBTQ youth. Carrell was promoted to assistant director of Student Financial Aid on July 1, 2018.

Carrell is interested in opportunities that enrich her ability to serve students and the financial aid profession. She is an advocate for promoting programs and policies that ensure student access to higher education.

The NASFAA Board of Directors received nearly 100 applications for Diversity Leadership Program. Six were selected.
