There was traditional pageantry, our name in lights, and the Kid Captains’ shout-out during the Hawkeyes’ shutout

Homecoming in Hawkeye country was in full swing during the week of Oct. 14–20, and culminated in a triumphant day in Kinnick Stadium—and not just because of the favorable final score.

The Hawkeyes did emerge victorious—a resounding 23–0 result against the Maryland Terrapins—but the biggest moment happened at halftime.

The Kid Captain program, a partnership that began in 2009 between the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital and the Iowa Hawkeyes to honor pediatric patients and celebrate their inspirational stories, honored its 134 patient alumni. The Kid Captains and their families were recognized during halftime—more than 100 families came to the game for the festivities, eliciting some of the day's most emotional cheers.

The UI campus celebrated Homecoming with a parade, concert, and numerous additional activities. See some of the highlights in the photo gallery above.
