Change reflects input from students, desire for more clearly delineated office roles

In order to better define and organize the roles of offices in the Division of Student Life, I am pleased to announce that the current Student Conduct Office is moving from the dean’s suite in the Iowa Memorial Union to its own space. It will also take on a new name, the Office of Student Accountability.

After consulting with many members of the campus community, we feel that the name change and separation of the Office of Student Accountability from the dean’s office suite (135 IMU) both more accurately reflects the role of the accountability office and allows the dean’s office to operate more as a locus for encouraging student success and positive change. Some staff will see their titles change to more accurately reflect their roles, and additional staff will join the renamed office to better serve the needs of campus.

The Office of Student Accountability is charged with protecting students’ rights, upholding community standards, and, true to its name, ensuring accountability on campus. In order for the office to do so, we plan to revise the Code of Student Life so that it is more transparent, supportive, and understandable. We are also updating our web presence to increase accessibility to information and resources, make sure reporting processes are easy to understand and follow, provide easy-to-use online scheduling opportunities, and better outline consequences.

During this transition, we are also working to encourage and streamline campus partnerships and outreach programs, provide training opportunities, and use resources ever more efficiently.

The Office of Student Accountability is now in suite 203 on the second floor of the Iowa Memorial Union.
