The search for a new associate vice president and dean of students at the University of Iowa has been extended.

A search committee made up of UI faculty, staff, and students will now work with the Isaacson, Miller, Inc. search firm to find a replacement for Lyn Redington, who was named vice president for student life at Idaho State University. The committee brought four candidates to campus near the end of the spring semester during its initial search.

“The search committee should be commended for its work thus far,” says Melissa Shivers, vice president for student life and interim chief diversity officer. “I’m confident we will find the right person to serve as the next AVP/DOS for our students and the university.”

Cheryl Reardon, chief human resources officer at the UI, will continue as chair of the search. Other members of the search committee include:

  • Lori Berger, human resources, Division of Student Life
  • Christina Bohannan, professor, College of Law
  • Barbara Burke, deputy director of intercollegiate athletics
  • Fred Cherry, student leader
  • Dan Clay, dean of the College of Education
  • Monique DiCarlo, Title IX coordinator and sexual misconduct response coordinator
  • Nate Levin, deputy counsel
  • Jodi Linley, assistant professor, College of Education
  • Thomas Pak, Graduate and Professional Student Government
  • Nadine Petty, executive director, Center for Diversity and Enrichment
  • Hira Mustafa, University of Iowa Student Government
  • Greg Thompson, director, Residence Education

Angie Reams, associate dean of students, and Bill Nelson, associate dean of students and executive director of the Iowa Memorial Union, are stepping in to assist with the position’s portfolio until a new leader is named.

The search will begin this summer, with a new AVP/DOS expected to be in place as soon as possible.
