The Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s board of trustees has named Lon Moeller, associate provost for undergraduate education and dean of University College at the University of Iowa, to be the next senior vice president for academic affairs and provost of their university. His last day at the UI will be in late March.

Lon has provided outstanding and steady leadership in all areas of undergraduate education, including the successful incorporation of distance education into University College. He is a deeply committed ally to our students and has worked tirelessly for undergraduate success.

We will miss him tremendously, but he leaves the university better for his strong civic and academic engagement.

In addition to more than 20 years of service, Lon earned a BBA, MA, and JD from the University of Iowa. In 1994, he began teaching in the Tippie College of Business where he became a clinical professor and associate dean for undergraduate development and won two awards for teaching. Lon served as university ombudsperson and co-director for the Larned A. Waterman Iowa Nonprofit Resource Center before he was appointed to his current position in July 2014.

I would like to thank Lon for his tremendous service to the University of Iowa and to the state. We wish him and his wife, Linda, great happiness in Florida.

I will name an interim for the position in March.
