University of Iowa faculty, staff, and students have been named to the search committee to replace Sean O’Harrow, former director of the University of Iowa Museum of Art (UIMA). O’Harrow, who grew up in Hawaii, resigned his position in January 2017 to run the Honolulu Museum of Art.

University of Iowa Interim Provost Sue Curry in August named John Culshaw, university librarian, and Steve McGuire, professor and director of the UI School of Art and Art History, to serve as co-chairs of the committee.

The following committee members will join Culshaw and McGuire in the search:

• Julia Leonard, associate professor, Center for the Book
• Sarah Luko, graduate research assistant, UIMA
• John Nelson, professor, Department of Political Science
• Joyce Summerwill, member, UIMA advisory board
• Buffie Tucker, member, UIMA advisory board
• Jane Van Voorhis, assistant vice president, UI Center for Advancement
• Adele Vanarsdale, facilities planner, Planning Design and Construction
• Jasmine Woolery, undergraduate student

James Leach, former Iowa Congressman and visiting professor of law at the UI, has been serving as UIMA’s director on an interim basis since Jan. 1, 2017, and will continue in that role until a permanent director is hired.

The search is set to begin in late November and end by the close of the 2018 spring semester.
