J. Brooks Jackson today begins his new role as University of Iowa vice president for medical affairs and dean of the UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine.

Jackson comes to Iowa from the University of Minnesota, where he had served as vice president for health affairs and dean of the medical school since 2014. A pathologist and internationally recognized HIV/AIDS researcher, Jackson led the pathology department at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine from 2001 to 2014.

UI President Bruce Harreld will host a reception welcoming Jackson from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at the Paul W. Brechler Press Box at Kinnick Stadium. The event is open to all UI Health Care staff, as well as the public. Brief remarks will begin at 5:45 p.m.
