If you live in Iowa City, you know that winter travel comes with a host of challenges. Whether you’re driving cross country for the holidays or just trying to get to work on time, here are some tips to make things a little easier.
Avoid busses and flights—UI Rideshare might get you home cheaper and faster.
The University of Iowa Rideshare Network matches students, faculty, and staff with each other for carpooling and more, including for single trips, such as driving to the airport or home to other parts of the state or Midwest for Thanksgiving. For example, a savvy student can catch a ride or split a ride to Chicago with a fellow Chicagoan for the holiday.
The program is free and only requires your Hawk ID and password. In the month leading up to its one-year anniversary, 53 new accounts were created and 642 “find match” requests were made. To see if someone is headed to the same place as you, visit UI Parking and Transportation's rideshare page.
Free shuttle between IMU and Eastern Iowa Airport for undergrads
UI Student Government has launched a pilot program to offer no-cost shuttles from the Iowa Memorial Union to the Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids. The service has several departure times and is available to undergraduate students for Thanksgiving, winter, and spring breaks. See a schedule for Thanksgiving break and learn more on UISG's airport shuttle page.
Traffic changes coming to west campus starting Nov. 19
The day after the last home game this season (Go Hawks!), renovation will begin on Kinnick Stadium’s North End Zone and is scheduled to last until the 2018 season. Construction will affect nearby streets, pedestrian routes, and CAMBUS service.
- Evashevski Drive between Hawkins Drive and Lot 43 North Drive will be closed to all traffic, including pedestrians. Pedestrians should use the skywalk between West Campus Transportation Center (WCTC) and UI Hospitals and Clinics
- CAMBUS routes that normally approach Stop No. 2000 WCTC northbound on Hawkins Drive will continue west on Melrose Avenue to approach WCTC via Evashevski Drive. The intersection of Melrose Avenue and Evashevski Drive also will have a temporary stoplight in place through the summer of 2019.

Forgot your parking permit? Call in and avoid a ticket.
UI Parking Services offers a courtesy program for faculty and staff permit holders who forgot to display their parking permit: the Call-In program. Thanks to an update and collaboration with university Information Technology Services, permit holders can now easily use an online application to submit a “call-in” to the system. Learn more.
