University of Iowa spin-out company SwineTech was recently named a finalist in the Farm Bureau Agricultural Entrepreneurship Challenge. The team was awarded $15,000 and will compete for the $30,000 top prize. SwineTech founders Matthew Rooda and Abraham Espinoza developed a system that prevents sows from rolling over on their piglets. They started the company while students at UI using resources from the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center (JPEC) and they are housed in JPEC’s Bedell Entrepreneurship Learning Laboratory (BELL).
