Clinton Street to be rerouted, students to check in at individual halls
Wednesday, August 9, 2017

There’s going to be a lot more black and gold around Iowa City as the University of Iowa welcomes first-year students moving into residence halls. That means it’s important to be patient—there’s a lot of construction on and off campus.

Residence hall move-in for new students will be scheduled in shifts from 9 a.m. to noon and 2–5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 15; Wednesday, Aug. 16; and Thursday, Aug. 17.

Student move-in will likely cause traffic and delays each day. To accommodate move-in and avoid construction, Clinton Street will be reduced to one-way traffic going north beginning at the corner of Clinton and Market streets, continuing through the right-hand turn where Clinton becomes Church Street, and ending at the intersection of Church and Dubuque. Traffic is also expected to be heavy around the new Elizabeth Catlett Residence Hall on Madison Street. Students using trailers or moving trucks are strongly encouraged to arrive at their residence hall after 6 p.m. on move-in days.

All students will be reporting directly to their residence hall, where they will receive specific parking and unloading directions. Students have also been given specific driving directions about how to access campus in order to minimize traffic disruptions. As in previous years, nearly 700 volunteers will be assisting students as they unload their belongings on these important days.

All students will also have the option of moving in early on Sunday, Aug. 13, from 9 a.m. to noon and 1–5 p.m. by signing up online. Students will report directly to residence halls, and a limited number of volunteers will be available.

Returning students will move in on Saturday, Aug. 19.
