The co-chairs of the search committee for the next vice president for student life are moving quickly to recruit a new leader by the end of the summer. The committee held its first meeting this week and adopted an aggressive timeline that would conclude the hiring process in late June or early July.
“Replacing Tom Rocklin will be difficult because of what he has meant to this campus and the relationships he’s built with students, faculty, and staff. But the search committee is eager to get started,” said co-chair Laura McLeran, senior adviser to the president and associate vice president for external relations.
McLeran says the committee would like to begin advertising the position in early March. Rocklin announced in December that he plans to retire in July of 2017 after having served in various capacities at the UI for 30 years.
UI President Bruce Harreld previously named McLeran and Kenneth G. Brown, professor and associate dean of undergraduate programs at the Tippie College of Business, as co-chairs of the search committee to replace Rocklin.
