Karl Kreder, professor of urology and Rubin H. Flocks Chair, has received the Victor A. Politano Award from the American Urological Association for his research and clinical excellence in urinary incontinence. The award, presented annually, is given to an individual for outstanding achievements in the field and for enhancing the treatment of incontinent patients.

Spanning more than two decades, Kreder’s research has primarily focused on two main areas: overactive bladder/female incontinence and interstitial cystitis. Within these fields of study, he’s acted as principal investigator on seven National Institutes of Health–sponsored clinical trials for conventional medications and surgical treatments as well as complementary and alternative therapies. His work addresses symptom reduction and the psychosocial impact of the condition on a patient.
