A research paper by University of Iowa graduate student Jacob E. Simmering has been published in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases: Journal of the COPD Foundation (JCOPDF).

The purpose of Simmering’s paper, “Identifying Patients with COPD at High Risk of Readmissions,” was to examine the risk for readmission within 30 days from time of discharge in patients with COPD using the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. This statewide dataset allows researchers to consider all re-admissions for COPD, regardless of age or payer status.

More on Simmering’s research is available online. He is a PhD student in the UI College of Pharmacy.
