University of Iowa School of Dentistry’s Richard Burton, a clinical professor in the UI Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, was appointed president of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS) starting in September 2016. This one-year commitment marks his seventh year of service with the ABOMS Board of Directors.

The mission of ABOMS is to assure public safety and optimal care through the development and maintenance of high standards of certification and re-certification of diplomas in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Kirk Fridrich, head of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the UI, says Burton should be congratulated “on this distinguished professional achievement and for representing the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and UIHC in such an exemplary manner.”
