Rahmouni honored by International Society of Hypertension

Kamal Rahmouni, professor of pharmacology and internal medicine at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, has been awarded the 2016 Paul Korner Award by the International Society of Hypertension (ISH).

The award, which will be presented to Rahmouni at the ISH Awards Ceremony and Presidential Lecture on Sept. 28 in Seoul, South Korea, recognizes scientists who have made outstanding contributions to hypertension research in the field of neuroscience.

Rahmouni’s research focuses on the neurobiology of metabolism, energy balance, and cardiovascular function, as well as related disorders such as obesity, diabetes, and hypertension (high blood pressure). He is a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center and the Obesity Research and Education Initiative at the UI.

The award was established in 2013 and is endowed by the High Blood Pressure Research Foundation. It honors the late Paul Korner, an international expert in hypertension research. Rahmouni is the second recipient of this biennial award.
