Beginning Aug. 2, North Dubuque Street will close twice daily to allow construction crews to split underground rock and make room for a deep sanitary trunk sewer. Sirens will alert drivers and a flag crew will halt traffic at 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, for five to 15 minutes.

The closures will take place between Terrell Mill Park, located just north of Mayflower Residence Hall, and Church Street. Drivers should expect delays and long lines during the closures and are encouraged to take a different route.

The daily closures are expected to occur through Aug. 23 and may last longer.

The Red, Blue, and Hawkeye Interdorm Cambus routes will experience 10- to 20-minute delays and passengers are advised to take an earlier bus to arrive at their destination on time.

The road construction is part of the Iowa City Gateway Project, a flood-mitigation project that will raise Dubuque Street while elevating and replacing the Park Road bridge.

Cambus riders are encouraged to use ebongo.org for real-time bus information. Transit passengers can call 319-335-8633 or email cambus-transit@uiowa.edu with questions about service.
