Clinton Street to be rerouted, students to follow hall-specific instructions
Wednesday, August 10, 2016

It’s going to be a busy few days in Iowa City as the University of Iowa welcomes thousands of first-year students moving into residence halls. And with lots of construction on and off campus, it’s important to remember to be patient.

Residence hall move-in will be scheduled in shifts from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 17, and Thursday, Aug. 18.

About 3,000 students are expected to arrive each day, and delays in traffic are anticipated. To accommodate move-in traffic and avoid construction, Clinton Street will be reduced to one-way traffic going north beginning at the corner of Clinton and Market streets, continuing through the right-hand turn where Clinton becomes Church Street, and ending at the intersection of Church and Dubuque.

Students moving into Burge, Currier, Daum, Stanley, Hillcrest, Petersen, Rienow, and Slater residence halls will report to the former Studio Arts building on Highway 1 to start their process. Residents of Mayflower and Parklawn will receive parking and unloading directions at their assigned hall. Mayflower residents are being instructed to exit Dodge Street and proceed to Mayflower via Church Street and north on Dubuque Street.

Up to 2,000 students also have the option of moving in early on Sunday, Aug. 14, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Students will report directly to residence halls, and no volunteers will be available.
