Editor's note: This story has been updated to reflect additional details provided to Iowa Now after publication.

As part of ongoing efforts to improve and expand service, University of Iowa Parking and Transportation will add a CAMBUS route and adjust several others beginning Monday, Aug. 22.

The AM Hawkeye Express Route, Hawkeye Hospital Route, Hospital Finkbine Arena Route, North Hospital Shuttle Route, Hawkeye Interdorm Route, and Interdorm Route will be affected.

A new PM Hawkeye Express Route will be added, and an Interdorm/Cultural Houses Route will regularly branch off from the Interdorm Route to serve a new stop at the UI Cultural & LGBTQ Resource Centers near Melrose Avenue and Grand Avenue Court.

Schedule and route information on Bongo and the UI Parking and Transportation website will not reflect these changes until they take effect Aug. 22.

UI Parking and Transportation will expand service and coverage for riders boarding CAMBUS at Aspire Stop 3106, which serves the Aspire at West Campus university housing community. The new PM Hawkeye Express Route will offer the same service as the AM route and will run from 3:15 to 6:19 p.m. In addition, both routes will now make stops on Newton Road.

The Hawkeye Hospital Route, which also serves Aspire Stop 3106, will no longer serve the three CAMBUS stops on Hawkeye Drive, but instead will serve one stop at Prairie Meadow Drive and Hawkeye Drive. This will shorten the route and help keep the route running on time.

Changes will improve frequency of service for riders to and from the Finkbine Parking Lot. The Hospital Finkbine Arena Route will add a 6:22 a.m. departure from Finkbine South Stop 2031, and the departure times of the North Hospital Shuttle will be adjusted to help riders boarding there arrive on time at the VA Loop stop.

Hawkeye Parking Lot commuters will also see changes, with the AM and PM Hawkeye Express Routes now serving Hawkeye Parking Lot Stop 3125.

To maintain reliable route schedules despite the delays caused by Gateway Project construction on North Dubuque Street, the Hawkeye Interdorm Route will be altered.

Like the Hawkeye Hospital Route, the Hawkeye Interdorm Route, will service one stop on Prairie Meadow Drive instead of the three stops on Hawkeye Drive. The Interdorm Route will provide departures every 10 minutes between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. and will operate until 11 p.m.

At the request of UI Student Government, a new stop on or near Melrose Avenue and Grand Avenue Court will be established to serve the UI Cultural & LGBTQ Resource Centers. Between 1 and 11 p.m., an Interdorm Route bus will switch to a Interdorm/Cultural Houses Route and depart from the new stop every 30 minutes.

CAMBUS is the UI’s student-operated, no-fare public transit system providing fixed-route service and paratransit services throughout campus.
