Road construction between Holt and Riverside from June 15 to 19
Tuesday, June 14, 2016

Starting June 15, road construction will cause a full closure on West Park Road between Holt Avenue and North Riverside Drive until the end of the day on June 19, weather permitting. The intersection at West Park Road and North Riverside Drive will remain open, and access to West Park Road west of North Riverside Drive will be detoured via Ferson Avenue and River Street. Sidewalk access will be similarly closed, and pedestrians will be detoured along the same route.

Access to Upper and Lower City Park entrances will remain available to the public throughout this construction period.

Original Gateway Project plans aimed to keep one lane of traffic open in both directions, but unexpected complications with nearby trees and utilities have necessitated the closure.

Gateway Project road construction aiming to elevate North Dubuque Street above the 100-year flood level also affects traffic in the region. Construction on North Dubuque Street began May 31 and has narrowed the street to one lane in either direction. The Gateway Project is scheduled for completion in 2018.

Drivers should take note of these construction areas and closures and should allow extra travel time or seek an alternate route because delays may occur.

Construction on West Park Road may cause other closures this summer. University of Iowa Parking and Transportation is in close contact with the city of Iowa City, and both are working to provide as much advanced notice for such closures as possible.

The UI CAMBUS is not expected to experience any delays at this time.
