A new gang in black and gold found success on the football field Nov. 14. The fourth-ranked University of Iowa wrestling team defeated top-ranked Oklahoma State University, 18–16, in the Grapple on the Gridiron, Nov. 14, in front of 42,287 fans—the largest dual crowd in NCAA history.

The Hawkeyes and Cowboys split 10 matches, but Iowa scored bonus points at 125 and, after dropping three straight, regained the lead for good with a crowd-pleasing technical fall at 184.

It was a good weekend overall for Iowa athletics. In addition to the wrestling victory, the Hawkeye men's basketball team defeated Gardner-Webb on Nov. 13 and dominated Coppin State, 103–68, on Nov. 15. The women's basketball team won the Hawkeye Challenge, opening with a 83–61 win over North Dakota before knocking off Tennessee-Martin, 62–56, in the final.

And just hours after the Grapple on the Gridiron concluded, the UI football team held off a feisty challenge from the Minnesota Golden Gophers, reclaiming Floyd of Rosedale with a 40–35 victory. The Hawkeyes move to 10–0 on the season and keep their College Football Playoff dreams alive.
