University of Iowa spin-out business Immortagen finished in third place at the John Pappajohn Iowa Business Plan competition Sept. 24 and received $10,000.

The company was awarded for its predictive algorithms that use the genetic profile of cancer patients to determine the risk of recurrence, and to identify specific treatment options.

Immortagen is located in the University of Iowa Research Park. Other UI spin-out businesses that finished in the top 10 in the business plan competition include Western Wise and Viewpoint Molecular Targeting, and Research Park tenant Innovas Technologies finished in first place.

The John Pappajohn Iowa Business Plan Competition is an annual competition sponsored by the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center to stimulate business development and entrepreneurialism and provide support for outstanding business plans. The awards were presented Sept. 24 in Des Moines.
