Division 55 of the American Psychological Association has awarded Anthony Rinaldi the Patrick DeLeon Prize for Young Psychologists.

The prize awards graduate students or recent grads on the basis of a paper on the subject of psychopharmacology or the advancement of the prescriptive authority movement.

Rinaldi is a doctoral student in the College of Education’s Counseling Psychology program. He won the award for his article “Prescriptive Authority and Counseling Psychology: Implications for Practitioners,” which was published in The Counseling Psychologist. The article argues for counseling psychology’s support of the prescriptive authority for psychologists movement, a controversial movement that advocates to train psychologists in prescribing psychotropic medications.
