Bruce Harreld made the rounds after being named the University of Iowa's 21st president, experiencing full-on Hawkeye spirit at FRYfest, touring spaces dedicated to academic innovation, and witnessing a rousing victory at Kinnick Stadium.

Harreld joined festival namesake Hayden Fry and Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad at the annual FRYfest celebration in Coralville, not long after meeting with the football team and imploring them to be leaders on the field and off. Harreld later explored the Main Library Learning Commons, where he got an up-close look at how the UI is changing teaching, research, and the academic experience.

The next day, Harreld met with UI faculty, staff, alumni, and friends before the football team's season-opening game against Illinois State University, a game that saw a stifling Hawkeye defense lead the way to a 31-14 victory.
