Clinton Street to be rerouted, new plan for students moving into west side halls
Monday, August 10, 2015

It’s the sign that the start of the new academic year is almost here—first-year students moving into the residence halls at the University of Iowa.

Residence hall move-in, which will be scheduled in time slots, will take place Tuesday-Thursday, Aug. 18-20.

Students will move in during the following shifts:

  • 9 a.m.-noon
  • 1-4 p.m.
  • 6 -9 p.m.

About 2,000 students are expected to arrive each day and delays in traffic are anticipated.

This year’s move-in plan includes some changes for students calling Hillcrest, Petersen, Quadrangle, Rienow, and Slater halls home. Volunteers and staff will be at all locations to offer assistance and directions.

Residence hall–specific move-in instructions are as follows:

Burge, Currier, Daum and Stanley:

  • Residents should go to the Clinton Street area between Burge and Currier.
  • Clinton Street will be one-way southbound on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • All traffic should enter the area at Church Street.

Hillcrest, Petersen, Quadrangle, Rienow, and Slater:

  • There will be no parking at west side residence halls this year.
  • Students moving in on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday should report to the Hawk Lot located at the Hawkeye Fields, near Mormon Trek and Melrose Avenue.
  • Students will receive room keys at that location and then drive to campus where volunteers will unload their vehicle and move their belongings to their room. Then, they will drive back to the Hawk Lot and take a shuttle back to campus.

Mayflower and Parklawn:

  • Residents will receive parking and unloading directions at their assigned hall.

Students also have the option of moving in early on Sunday, Aug. 16, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Those students will report directly to residence halls and no volunteers will be available.
