Redington comes from the University of Northern Iowa, where she served as director of residence life since July 2008. During her 21 years at UNI, Redington also held the roles of interim dean of students, and associate director of residence/housing. Prior to that, Redington worked at the University of Arizona, Indiana University, and the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater. She earned her bachelor of science, master of science, and doctor of philosophy from Iowa State University.

"I'm looking forward to fostering strong relationships on campus and in the community, encouraging student engagement, and promoting the development of UI students and staff," says Redington. "As I begin my first year, it’s exciting for me to support new students as they begin their academic career, welcome returning students as they excel in their program of study, and celebrate graduating students, as they become successful alumni."

As assistant vice president and dean of students, Redington will provide vision, leadership, and overall direction for the Office of the Dean of Students in the Division of Student Life. The office is responsible for providing assistance, advocacy, and support to students. This includes encouraging responsible behaviors, creating safe and secure environments, promoting academic successes, and protecting student rights and responsibilities.

Redington will also provide overarching leadership to the Iowa Memorial Union, which is comprised of student activities, auxiliary enterprises, and conference facilities and services.

"We’re very pleased Lyn is joining the University of Iowa. She’s a well-respected educator with a passion for helping students create meaningful learning experiences that foster and celebrate academic and personal development," says Tom Rocklin, vice president for student life. "Students are what drive the UI and we’re looking forward to her engaging with students, supporting positive community behavior, and enriching the college experience."
